User Friendly Websites
There’s one thing in getting traffic to your site, the other side is getting them to stay! The latter usually being the more difficult. If your website has a pleasant atmosphere allowing your users to interactive with it effectively, the longer they will linger and more inclined to doing what you want them to do, be it post a comment or purchase something off your website. They key is usability.
Navigation
This is one of the most important aspects of any website. If your users find that is awkward and can’t manage to get to where they want to without very little effort they will leave your website. The key is, the process of figuring out your navigation has to be completely thoughtless, a monkey should be able to do it. Forget about fancy menus that fly out, and other techniques to give it some wow factor. Stick with what works, and what works is logical and simple.
Page Load Speed
As discussed before, the time it takes your page to load also depends on whether your visitors stay or not. I’m sure you have experienced that yourself, a page that takes long to load makes you feel frustrated. Ideally your users should practice patient, and at the same time hopefully lower their blood pressure, but we all know that isn’t going to happen! Websites are using more and more resources, which is fine, but make sure that they load incrementally. Don’t force video on your users, unless they click play. Give them options to what they want to see, by showing them the minimal first.
Information
Information is still one of the key concepts on the web. HTTP, stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol, text being the operative word and it still holds true today even with the advent of Youtube and social media sites. Sharing information on the interwebs is still mainly done via text. Make sure the information you are providing your visitors with is informative and entertaining to make sure that they come back for more. Not only that, the text on your website is the only source search engines have to quantify your website, if it’s lacking that’s exactly what search engines will think of your website.
