Affordable Hosting for your Websites Needs
When getting started with your own website or blog, you'll need to select an appropriate web hosting package which best suits your requirements.
The first decision to be made is what type of package you need. These are broken down into 3 main options and a few more which fall into a little bit of a grey area but for this articles sake, we'll stick to the main options.
- Free Hosting
- Shared Web Hosting
- Dedicated Web Hosting
Free Hosting
Although generally frowned upon if you're choosing to host a business site, if you're looking to host a blog, a fun site for a hobby perhaps, or for a charity where keeping costs low are important then perhaps this is the best choice for you. As with everything that's free, there's always a downside and in the hosting industry this is normally adverts and banners on your site to promote products by the free host you've chosen. As well as these sometimes annoying ads, you'll be sharing with lots of other people and fighting for somewhat limited resources and as a result may experience lots of down time and tech support is generally non-existant. If none of this matters to you then this could be the best choice for you.
Shared Web Hosting
If you're after your own domain name (ie. wanting your own email address myname@domainname.com), then this is the cheaper of two options available.
Shared hosting means exactly what its name implies, you'll be sharing a server with other people but the exact amount varies between each hosting company. This is all in all, a good choice for many people by being affordable with options of different packages. If you can find the right host for your site, your hosting experience should be a pleasant one with well supported hosting at your disposal.
Dedicated Web Hosting
This second option for your own domain name is the more expensive of the two but you're paying for a dedicated server meaning that all resources are at your disposal. Unless your site will in time become a giant within your industry, such as social networking sites Facebook and MySpace or any big e-commerce site, then this option may not be for you. The features available to dedicated hosting are almost identical to Shared Web Hosting, but without the hassle of sharing the server with multiple other sites.
Conclusion
So as you can see, there a quite a few options open to you but as I mentioned at the beginning of the article, what your site's purpose is depends entirely on what kind of hosting solution you will need for it. As with all things in life, don't rush into anything and make sure you're getting exactly what you need and nothing more.
